ADS5463-SP high current consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5463-SP

Hello Team,

My customer ALTER has a question regarding the ADS5463-SP they are already using and they want to use in a flight application. They are using ADS5463-SP for an application that does not convert continuously. They provide a square wave clock at 120MHz just when they need to convert and they cannot power-off this ADC.

The problem arises when the ADC does not receive a clock. It begins to consume too much current and temperature goes up. They had to design a parallel circuit to provide an auxiliary clock (when the main one is not present) just to impede ADC consume and overheat. Their clock configuration is the one provided in the figure 18 (single ended clock) in the datasheet.  When there is no clock, both CLK and nCLK go to 2.4V and current grows 1amp. There is no clear recommended implementation for discontinuous clock signal.

Is there any way or procedure in order to avoid high current drain and overheat when clock is not present?

Many thanks in advance,

Mo.
