SN65HVD1792-EP: SN65HVD1792-EP power supply requirements

Part Number: SN65HVD1792-EP

I'm evaluating two transceivers with fault protection (Linear's LTC2865 and SN65HVD1792-EP).

During +ve voltage fault and higher than Vcc common mode voltage conditions, LTC part says that  some current may flow back to supply and a zener diode should be placed on supply line of transceiver (or supply must be able to sink this current).

I haven't noticed a similar requirement in the datasheet. However, I'd like to ask whether SN65HVD1792-EP needs a special care for its supply line, just to be on the safe side?

Thanks in advance

  • Murat,

Figure 11 shows the leakage current during overvoltage.

Note, that the current is approximately +/- 500uA in the +/- 70V range.   This indicates that a large current will not flow into device potentially elevating VCC.

It is also useful to note the section on 70V fault protection on page 13.

There are specific conditions as to where a 30V fault could cause stress/damage to the device.

    Regards,

    Wade
