Hi all,

On the first page of the LM2941 datasheet is highlighted that this component can adjust it's output from 5V to 20V.

Is it possible to use this component to generate a 3,3V from a 5V input voltage? Are there any contraindications or limitations?

  • Due to the design of the LM2941, the output is limited to 5V on the low end.

    What are your requirements.   We have a number of other regulator options.

    You indicate that you have an input of 5V and output of 3.3V.   We have the LM117QML-SP, if you don't also need low dropout capabilities.

    We also have the TPS7A4501-SP and TPS7H1101A-SP.

    Yes, i have to add some details that I have for this design to give the right light of my problem.
    First of all the supply line wich i started from is 5V with ±10% tolerance that means that i could have only 4,5V as input voltage. So that I have excluded the LM117 because the drop voltage at 200mA is about 1,5V or more.

    The other two regulators that you suggested are too big. My application need only 100mA (or less) at 3,3V.

  • Hi Ennio,

    I am not sure what you mean by too big.  The TPS7A4501-SP can regulate down to a load of 150 mA or lower and it comes in a 10 pin CFP.

    Do you have other requirements, such as radiation?   We also have the LP2953-SP, which is a 250 mA LDO.

  • Yes. I need a radiation hardness of 100Krad.


    I will consider the TPS7A4501-SP for such application.
