SN65HVD10-EP: A B Tied to Ground

Part Number: SN65HVD10-EP

What happens if A and B are tied to ground?

Esp in the cases where

1) D has a value and DE is high (enabled)

2) /RE is low (enabled)

  • Mark,
This will enable the driver and cause the outputs to attempt to drive to their respective differential state. Since they are both shorted to ground, one output will be driving at its full IOH level. This is specified as minimum of 60mA. The output attempting to drive low will not be sourcing or sinking significant current.

Obviously this is a functional issue.

From a reliability standpoint, the transmitter is designed to handle this. There is specification for Ios (short circuit output current) with Vout voltage range of -7 to +12V. The current will be less than +/-250mA, and within recommended operating specifications.
