UC1834: HI Is there any alternative part for the UC1834 ?

Part Number: UC1834
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC2832-EP, UC3834, UC2834

Hi I need to get the alternative part for the UC1834. Its a positive/negative regulator. Since UC1834 is costly I need to get a alternative part to test it. Can u suggest one?

  • Hello Tharanath,

Are you able to detail your application needs so we can better assist you? What is your input voltage, output voltage, and output current? Additionally, are you looking for a regulator with an external pass element? Lastly, do you need the full military temperature range?

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hi brother,

    Input voltage- 5-35V

    Output voltage-2.5V-20V

Output current-without pass element (350mA- Driver current), With pass element(8A)

This is military application. I am looking for part which has same architecture of UC1834.

    Thanks,

    Tharanath

  • Hello Tharanath,

The UC2834 and UC3834 have the same architecture and are the non-military version of these parts. They will have different packages though. Are you just looking for a cheaper version to prototype with or do you need a cheaper final solution? The UC2832-EP may work for an end solution but it does not have a 5962 number or the full temperature range of the UC1834.

Also just out of curiosity is your worst case power dissipation going to be (35Vin - 2.5Vout) * 8A = 260W? I'm sure you've already considered it, but it's worth mentioning looking at a switching regulator solution may be significantly more power efficient.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

I am looking for a cheaper version and power dissipation is not a big concern; may be 1A max is fine.

    Thanks,
    Tharanath
  • Hello Tharanath,

So you are looking for a cheaper final solution? If you need a full military rated version the UC1834 may be your best bet. Otherwise take a look at the above recommendations.

Also, even with 1A max you are looking at 32.5W which may be difficult to effectively dissipate (although possible).

Please let me know if you have specific further questions .

    Thanks,
    Kyle
