BQ500211A Fault conditions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ500211A, BQ51050B

Hello,

I have a charger and receiver based on the BQ500211A and BQ51050B respectively, Both function properly, however, after charging a Lithium polymer battery for several hours (Not healthy, but I cannot educate the customer) the charger goes into a fault condition which it does not recover from. Now, there are two such conditions listed in page 15 of the BQ500211A datasheet, how can I know what fault occurred?

The charger resumes normal operation when the receiver is removed and returned to the charging position.

  • Hi Gribo

The bq51050B has a Fast-charge timer for safety, 10 hours (36000 sec).  If the 050B cannot complete charge in 10 hours it will set a Battery Failure fault and send the TX EPT06, End Power Transfer.  The TX will stay off until the RX has been removed.

If the several hours charging time mentioned is closer to 10 hours this could be the problem.
