Hi,

We have a requirement of level translation from 3.3V to 12V logic levels. Please let me know whether the part# CD40109B-Q1 is suitable for this purpose? If this can be used, please explain how to implement it with schematics? incase if this part can not be used, please suggest any alternate solution for 3.3V to 12V logic level shifting.

Hey Gopi,

Yes, this device can perform that level translation. As for implementation, it is straight forward: You want to supply the VCC and VDD pins with 3.3 V and 12 V respectively. Route the inputs to the input pins and route the outputs to the desired device/location. The enable pins can be controlled with external signals or tied to Vcc to keep the device always enabled. VSS should be connected to ground.

Its not required, but I would also include a bypass capacitors (0.1 uF) on both VCC and VDD pins (placed close to the device).

If you need fewer than four channels, consider using the UCC27517A-Q1.

Thanks for quick response.

We also have a requirement of 12V to 3.3 conversion, Please let me know whether this part can be used for 12V to 3.3 conversion? If so, how this can be implemented? also, in this case OE pin should be pulled to which voltage rail?

Hey Gopi,

Yes.

You implement it the exact same way except this time VCC will be 12 V and VDD will be 3.3 V. The enable pins are referenced to VCC so they should be pulled to that rail.
