SN54AC00-SP: Input Voltage Clarification

Part Number: SN54AC00-SP

Team,

Section 6.2 Recommended Operating Conditions shows input voltage (VI) at a maximum value of VCC. However, under section 1 Features, it says, “Input Accepts Voltage to 6 V.” Which of these is correct? Can the part handle inputs up to 6V when operated at 3.3V? The product page under features indicates, “Over-voltage tolerant inputs.”

Thank you.

  • Hello,

The inputs have clamp diodes to both ground and VCC, so a series resistor is required if you want to have the input larger than the supply, and some current will flow through that positive diode to the supply.

The "Overvoltage tolerant" inputs tag on the website is a mistake and I'll look into correcting that for these parts.
