SN74LVC1GX04: Connecting crystal to the SN74LVC1GX04 Spice model

Part Number: SN74LVC1GX04

Hi Team,

We have received this inquiry from our customer,

In the Spice Model, only 4 Pins (Y, A, VCC, AGND) are defined. But the device has 5 Pins (X1, X2, Y, VCC, GND). How can I connect the crystal when I use the model in my simulation?

Thank you for your support!

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Does the customer have a simulation model of a crystal? I'd be interested to see that model if possible -- I have built my own in the past, however I haven't seen an 'official' crystal model.

The behavioral PSpice model provided for this device only represents the buffered (yellow) portion:

We don't currently have a fully tested public model that will model the unbuffered inverter portion.  I do have an experimental model that works, but I can't make any promises to its accuracy.

I have built oscillator circuits with my own crystal models in the past with this, and they do work, however I have not tested the accuracy of the model against real devices in the lab.

I'd recommend to instead prototype the circuit to ensure that all the components will work together correctly.

  • Hi Emrys,

Thank you for your response. Here is the simulation model of crystal from the Micro Cap software.

  • Thanks Danilo,

That's the same model I've used in the past -- I was hoping maybe they had a more accurate one for a particular crystal.

  • Hi Emrys,

So the crystal can be modeled using passive components. Thank you very much for your help.
