CD4010B: VCC voltage range

Hi,

Could you please let me know the VCC voltage range? The datasheet shows VDD voltage range which are 3V to 18V. Does the VCC has same range?

  • The VCC voltage range is shown in the recommended operating conditions table on page 2 of the datasheet; it's from 3 V to VDD.

  • Thank you for your advice. The application may cause the condition Vcc (Input voltage) > Vdd (output voltage). Then CD4010B cannot meet this requirement. I guess the CD40109B can support Vcc > Vdd condition.

    1. CD40109B datasheet doesn't show the Vcc range. could you please let me know it?
    2. In the worst case, the application may cause Vdd = 0V. This mean is Vcc = 3.3V and Vdd = 0V. Do you have recommend device to support this?

    Below are requirements:

    - Input voltage : 3.3V or 5V

    - Output voltage : 0 ~ 15V

  • In the CD40109B datasheet, the recommended operating conditions table shows that both supplies can go from 3 V to 18 V. Also see the top entry under "Features" on page 1.

    Other devices might be usable for this. How many channels at what speed do you need?

  • I would like to use 6 channel. But 2x 4ch is acceptable.

    For CD40109B, Could you please let me know if it is possible to support?

    - At Vcc = 3.3V and Vdd <3.0V, what will output be happen? or will it get damage?
    - At Vcc = 0V and Vdd = 3.0 ~ 16V,  what will output be happen? or will it get damage?
    - At Vcc = 0V and Vdd = <3.0V,  what will output be happen? or will it get damage?

  • The absolute maximum ratings allow such low voltages, so the device will not get damaged.

    But below the minimum recommended supply voltage, correct operation is not guaranteed.

    Thank you for your advice. For support the output in the condition which is below the minimum recommended supply voltage, I would like to add external pull down resistor on the output pin.  Is it possible to use additional pull down at output pin?
    -> I guess it can be set to "Low" below the 3.0V. And understand user should care the Ioh current for selecting the resistor.

  • It is possible to add a pull-down resistor. This resistor must have a high enough value so that the device can source the current through it (CD4000 outputs are not very strong, depending on the supply voltage).
