SN74HC595: Architecture type of the SN74HC595 device

Part Number: SN74HC595

Hello,

What is architecture type of the SN74HC595PWR, monolithic or hybrid?

Is there an easy way for the customer to check this?

Thank you.

JH

  • Hi JH,

All of our SN74xx parts are monolithic.

  • In everyday practical terms, the easiest way to check is to take an X-ray of the device at your favorite dentist office. Seriously. I’ve done that before, to answer a different question for myself. Of course in case of logic, all currently made logic chips are monolithic, although things get “subject to interpretation” when you go to SoCs and memories where multi-die packaging may be used. Those are not direct equivalents to the legacy dies-on-ceramic-substrate of course. The legacy-style hybrids are expensive and thus get used when there’s no alternative or when the cost vs. performance is advantageous. Modern PCB assemblies with 0402 SMT and sub-1mm^2 CSP packages often beat the integration levels of hybrid assemblies from 30 years ago.
