Level Translation output range -15V/+15V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65190, DS3680, TPS65196, LM339

Hi,

I need a IC, which translate 8 channels-inputs or more (logic-level) into -15V/+15V outputs. Far better is a kind of shift register (for minimum of inputs) with these properties.

I would like to implement our project with an IT product.

Thanks a lot!

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

We don't have anything like this in our typical translation portfolio, but i will ask around and see if there's anything else that might work for you.

  • Hi Hattie,

thanks for your response. If you have any information or ideas to solve my problem, it will help me a lot!

The perfect solution shows this picture:

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hello Alex,

What is the output load current?
Is there minimum output slew rate requirement?

The TPS65190 is a high voltage ten channel translator plus a uncommitted op-amp.

    Regards,
    Ron Michallick.

  • Hi Ron,

the current each output is very low (0,1mA). Also there is no minimum output slew rate requirement.

The TPS65190 typical supports only negative Voltage down to -13V. Do you think the negative Voltage is nearly -15V, if the output isn`t load  to much?

Do you know any IC with this properties and an I2C Input?

    Thanks for your answer

    Regards,

    Alex

  • Alex,

Here is an interesting idea. two DS3680 chips can do 8 bits and can handle +/-15V easily, but the smallest package is SOIC and an output pull up resistor would be required on each channel. SLL has only a couple of I2C chips and they won't work here.

I can help with the design if they can use this chip.

    Ron.

  • Hi Ron,

your idea sounds very interessting. I will try it out. At first time the TPS65196 sounds also very good, but they didn't send me the datasheet.

I think, I will sample the Chip. Do you have the datasheet and can send to me?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Regards,

    Alex

  • Alex,

The TPS65196 data sheet can be found at http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tps65196.html the download link is just left of the device package picture
That data sheet links are in the same location for all devices.

Because the output current and speed requirements are very low, an even less expensive option is available; two LM339 quad comparators.

I have attached a sample circuit.  The pull up resistors can be 15k ohms. The common voltage divider should provide a voltage between the logic VOH and VOL levels..
The total circuit is 2 LM339 and 10 resistors.

As drawn, it is a non inverting translator. swapping the input pins will change it to an inverting translator.

    Ron.

  • Hi Ron,

on the TI Website from the TPS65196 you can download only the "product overview", but I need the full datasheet. If I write an mail to the LCD Contact, they do not write back.

I'm only want to play save, if the TPS65196 is an solution for my problem. Because the overview looks very good. Do you have an idea to get this full datasheet?

Within the next days the pcb layout  will be ready with your solution. It is a good idea.

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards,

    Alex
