SN74LVC16245A: Mineral oils in ink banned in France

Part Number: SN74LVC16245A

Hi team,

This request is for all TI products. I described the part number because it's required filed.

This request is related to environment, so we've requested this to CSC with case No.CS1185134 first of all.

However we couldn't get enough information from CSC. Please see the case No if you need to see.

*** Request ***

Could you make sure if the following substances are included in inks used for TI products and packaging materials for shipping the products above the threshold level ?

Since we've got same request from some major customers, this request will increase. We hope that TI issues company letter and post in ti.com so that customers can make sure soon.

[ Outline of legal requirements ]

(1) Name of the regulation

Order of April 13, 2022, specifying the substances contained in mineral oils prohibited for use on packaging and for printed matter distributed to the public.

https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/id/JORFTEXT000045733481

(2) Subject to regulation

- Specific mineral oils contained in the printing ink of packaging materials

- Specific mineral oils contained in the ink of printed matters

- Definition of mineral oil: oils produced from feedstocks derived from petroleum hydrocarbons used in the manufacture of inks

(3) Banned substances and prohibitions

- Mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons consisting of 1 to 7 aromatic cycles (MOAH)

Effective from Jan. 1, 2023 : The concentration in ink exceeds 1%

Effective from Jan. 1, 2025 : The concentration in ink exceeds 0.1%. The concentration in the ink of compounds with 3 to 7 aromatic cycles exceeds 1 ppm.

- Mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons consisting of 16 to 35 carbon atomsMOSH)

Effective from Jan. 1, 2025 : The mass concentration in ink exceeds 0.1%

Thanks,

  • What is the definition of "distributed to the public"? As far as I can see, TI packaging is not covered by this law.

  • Hi Clements,

The definition is not clear, however TI will be asked when shipping products in France.

Since we've got same request from some major customers and number of request is increasing, TI and other distributors already got/will get same request.

Could you make sure of using the substances and release company letter so that everyone can reduce support resources ?

  • Hi Watanabe-san,

This forum is for providing technical assistance with specific devices.

We are engineers specializing in the usage of our particular devices and are not related to the CSC team -- we do not have access to their records or their resources.

I would recommend that you reach out to your local TI sales office to discuss this and get an advocate for this issue inside TI - most likely they will need to discuss with our legal and quality teams, who do not work through any forums like this.

If you do not have a local contact, I would recommend to continue to work with the CSC for your request.
