SN74LVC2G17-Q1: The maximum frequency and duty cycle of SN74LVC2G17-Q1

Part Number: SN74LVC2G17-Q1

Hello sir,

May I ask the peak output current of SN74LVC2G17-Q1 when VCC=3.3V? and What's the maximum frequency of input signal and its duty cycle which SN74LVC2G17-Q1 can accept?

Best regards,

Wenting

  • Hi Wenting,

May I ask the peak output current of SN74LVC2G17-Q1 when VCC=3.3V?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'peak output current.' There are essentially only three types of maximum output current we can discuss:

    (1) Maximum DC output current

    (2) Maximum total DC output current

    (3) Maximum transient output current

For (1) or (2), the actual amount of current will depend on the load applied - ie a 1 ohm resistor vs a 100kohm resistor will have very different results. The recommended maximum is in the recommended operating conditions table:

In case you wonder why there is more than one current rating for 3V, please see the electrical characteristics table for the output voltage associated with each  case.

The absolute maximum ratings are found the absolute maximum ratings table:

For (3), the current will briefly spike very high with a capacitive load, usually in the range of 50 to 100mA. As long as the capacitive load is within the datasheet recommended values, this is not a problem. Small capacitances take very little energy to charge, and thus the high current is safe. For this device, the maximum recommended capacitance can be found in the Parameter Measurement Information section of the datasheet, here:

It is a good idea to avoid exceeding the recommended value, as we cannot guarantee reliable operating with larger capacitance values. If you must have a larger capacitance for your system, then I would recommend adding a ballast resistor to the output to prevent current in excess of the maximum output current ratings.

  • Hi Wenting,

What's the maximum frequency of input signal and its duty cycle which SN74LVC2G17-Q1 can accept?

This device does not have a rated maximum input frequency or duty cycle. These will both be dependent on your system much more than this buffer.

With appropriate system design, the device can support 100+ MHz.

This FAQ addresses this question directly: [FAQ] What is the maximum data rate (or operating frequency) for a logic gate or buffer?
