Is the 02 device type made from the same die as the 01 or 03 device types, just without the same lot testing?
Hi James,
Can you clarify what you mean by the different device types?
The SMD number, 5962-87624 has 3 device types listed, 01, 02 and 03 in the part number.

listed device types:

both 02 and 03 point to the same generic number. I am curious if 02 and 03 are essentially the same part just with different screenings and lot testing?
Thanks,
James
Hi James,
My best guess regarding this is that device type 1 refers to SN54AC14 and 2 and 3 refer to two different packages offered (CDIP and CFP) for SN54AC14-SP. It seems the non-SP and the SP devices refer to the same SMD.
Hi James,
I was completely mistaken it seems device 2 and 3 refer to 5962-8762401 and 5962-8762402. The last two numbers indicate the different device types 01, 02 in OPN, however, these are type 02 and 03 with respect to the SMD. A bit confusing, however, as mentioned above, this is because the SMD also references the non-SP version of the device.
These do have different dies, but same testing and qual. I can do my best to look into what the die differences are if you need.
Device 2 is 5962-8762402 and device 3 is 5962-8762403. Both of these refer to the -SP version. the 01 device type is the non-SP.
So the 02 and 03 which both refer to the generic number 54AC14-SP, are different dies?
Any info on the die differences would be helpful.
Thanks!
Hi James,
I will have to refer to our quality team for this inquiry. I will try to get an answer back by Friday.
Hi James,
Here is the answer from our systems team on this topic:
The VID (vendor identification number) is different as the die was updated at some point. Because this is a space part it demands having this VID which is the OPN.
These are two different parts as far as space customers are concerned. If the design was done right, the update did not impact radiation performance or electrical performance.
Thank you, this is good information. Can you ask which device type uses the updated die? was it originally 02 and they made an update to 03, or is 02 an update from 03?
01 and 03 have radiation data, is there a plan to collect similar data for 02?
Hi James,
02 is the newer device. For radiation data, unfortunately I don't think there are plans for this currently.
Is the 02 device built on the same production line with the same processes as the 03?
James,
Yes, they have all the the same location and processes. The only difference is the updated die.
Also I just want to clarify numbering. I have been using our TI.com OPN convention.
In this scenario, the "02" device is the newer one, which is what I have been referring to.
Thank you for reclarifying!
I have the 5962-8762402VDA ordered from TI with P0075004 back in 2022. Because this is the TI OPN this should refer to the SMD device type 03?
I'm still slightly confused but looking back at our conversation you pointed this out at the beginning.
You are saying that TI's OPN 5962-8762401VCA maps to the SMD PIN 5962-8762402VCA? and TI's OPN 5962-8762402VCA (which is the updated die from the 01) maps to the SMD 5962-8762403VCA?
The SMD is offset in device type number by 1 because the SMD 5962-8762401 refers to TI's non-SP version of this part 54AC14?
How does one know which part they have? do they use the TI OPN or the SMD PIN?
| SMD | SMD PIN (Part or Identifying Number) |
TI's OPN (Orderable Part Number) |
||
| 1.2.2 Device types | ||||
| Device Type | Generic Number | Circuit function | ||
| 1 | 54AC14 | Hex inverter, Schmitt trigger | 5962-8762401 | 54AC14 |
| 2 | 54AC14-SP | Hex inverter, Schmitt trigger | 5962-8762402 | 5962-8762401 |
| 3 | 54AC14-SP | Hex inverter, Schmitt trigger | 5962-8762403 | 5962-8762402 |
Thanks,
James
I believe that I figured it out and the above is incorrect. By looking at the Vendor CAGE codes specified in the SMD.
SMD -01 refers to TI's OPN -01 and STMicroelectronics parts
SMD -02 refers to TI's OPN -02.
SMD -03 refers to STMicroelectronics parts, there is no SMD-03 part with a CAGE code for TI.
