SN74AHC541-Q1: questions on output port

Part Number: SN74AHC541-Q1

Hi Expert,

One use-case would like to check with you. In below diagram, when SN74AHC541-Q1 is 5V powered, if there have a 5V high level signal on the output side(Yx), does this 5V signal will have impact for the device no matter the output state(high/low/Hi-Z)?

If yes, any solutions?

Thanks!

Ethan Wen

  • When the output is high or Hi-Z, no current will flow. When the AHC541 tries to drive low, a current of 5 V / 33 Ω ≈ 150 mA will flow. This exceeds the absolute maximum rating and is likely to damage the device.

It might be possible to use a buffer with open-drain outputs. What is the actual problem you're trying to solve?
