Hey Ann,
MDIO signals are generally supported by open drain drivers, so I2C buffers are compatible. However, MDIO signals tend to support higher data rates also, which may be a limitation for I2C buffers.
Could you provide more information of the customer's application? What is the desired data rate/ operating VCCA/ VCCB? Is buffering truly required or just translation?
Here is a general list of I2C buffers that can be considered.
