Hi Lovina,
The power dissipation of the device will vary with the operating conditions (including switching frequency, operating mode, etc.) and the passives chosen around the IC. I would recommend you look at the WEBENCH tool to get an understanding of what the power dissipation in the IC would be. You can also use the quick start calculator: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/snvc220.
For a an example of the device performance - you can look at the test results on our EVM: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snvu591/snvu591.pdf
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks,
Best Regards,
Taru
Based on the Rth of the IC, about 1W is the highest you'd want to go. You can use an external VCC (8-13V) to reduce power dissipation, e.g. from a 12V output.
PS: use this quickstart file that covers the whole family https://www.ti.com/tool/LM5145DESIGN-CALC (and you can select the LM5146 from the dropdown menu). The LM5146 quickstart tool folder has an old version of the file (I should have it updated shortly).

Tim
