Hi ...,

I have inherited a legacy issue on a precision optical instrument that measures very low levels of light. The original designers used very good opamps for the signal conditioning circuit ....(OPA2111), however, they selected CD4051 as the mux. I have not been much of a fan of the CD4051, but perhaps it was chosen for its low pricing. However, now we have been facing several noise and linearity related problems in our instrument. To cut a long story short.... the CD4051 mux has become a suspect for causing cross talk and noise related problems.

Can Some one suggest a pin-pin compatible replacement for CD4051 having a lower RdsON (<50) please

Would greatly appreciate any inputs on this.

Hi Anand

It all depeds on the voltage you are using. CD4051 is the only part than can go over 5V.

The SN74LV4051A is probably the best choice since the LV family is very quiet and noise free. It will not have the temp range of the CD parts.

Another choice is CD74HC4051 . it will have the temp range but still only operates up to 5V

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention the CD4051 is operated over a dual supply rail :+/-5V supply

Will the SN74LV.. part work off that supply? Our input signals are bipolar so we need to retain the dual supply.

No The LV will not switch below gnd. The CD74HC4051 or CD74HCT4051 will.

Anand,

Well, I know we should champion TI parts ( and they make great parts ) but we also need prompt answers to a fair technical question. The datasheet for a competitors part is presented in far better detail and suggests it will offer better performance than the CD4051B. So look for DG9051.
