SN74LVC1G3157: Application with negative Voltage

Part Number: SN74LVC1G3157
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CD74HC4316

Hello,

I understand from reading datasheet that the amplitude of the input signals must be in the power rails range (0 to +5V in this case) to pass through this switch. I have an application where the input signal can be negative as it is an error signal out of comparing two signals. What is the best solution to handle the negative input voltage with this switch? Are there similar switches with -5V to +5V power rails?

Thank you in advance,

Sanaz

  • Hi Sanaz,

What do you require on the output? Do you need the negative signal to pass through?

If not, a simple solution would be to add a series resistor on the inputs to limit current through the internal clamp diode. This way your positive signals would go through and anything below about -0.5 V will get clamped to -0.5V.

If you need the full range of -5V to 5V, then I would recommend taking a look at CD74HC4316.

  • Thank you Joseph for your reply.

Yes, I need the negative signal to pass through without clamping. I will definitely try CD74HC4316.

    Thanks again,
    Sanaz
