SN74LVC16373A: Junction Temp

Part Number: SN74LVC16373A

Team,

My customer has the following request:

Trying to get a “Absolute Maximum Operating  Temperature” for SN74LVC16373ADGVR in TSSOP 48 package  (See spra953C for definition).   Datasheet gives only Maximum Operating Ambient of 125 C.  Absolute Maximum Operating  Temperature is the junction temperature at which the device functions electrically .. hopefully that means it meet datasheet parameters also.

Thanks,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

The maximum junction temperature for logic devices is equal to their maximum storage temperature unless otherwise stated - 150C in this case.  This is actually our top Frequently Asked Question located here.

Typically a logic device will not even approach these temperatures under normal operation.  Can you tell me about your application and what might cause such a drastic temperature rise?

  • Emrys,

Sometimes in mil/aerospace apps, circuits are in a enclosed box with no air flow.  Depending on where located, they could be co-located next to a PA, processor, etc. that is heat sync'd, but could cause the temperatures to rise to 100+C.   I agree, probably not going to hit 150C, but they need these types of numbers for their risk assessment. thermal models and to verify it's not Tj = 95C like our FRAM type parts.

    Regards,

    Aaron

  • I understand. Thanks for the clarification Aaron, and come back any time :)
