SN74LV8153: SN74LV8153 about the Reset pin capacitor

Part Number: SN74LV8153

Hi team,

The customer is using SN74LV8153. The attachment is his schematic.

He uses a 100uF/50V capacitor to connect reset pin and outsel pin.

For the reset pin, how much is the suitable to  be connected this pin ?

Best Wishes,

  • This is just a bulk decoupling capacitor. (Without a resistor, there is no RC filter.)
The schematic is slightly misleading; this capacitor should be placed near the power supply (input) of the board.

Both OUTSEL and RESET are connected directly to +5 V, for a constant high signal level.

  • Hello Mickey,

Yes, assuming that the capacitor was meant for VCC, which it would make the most sense to be, then this is fine. If the inputs are rising along with the VCC (shorting them all together), then there should be no issues.
If the VCC was somehow on a different supply and rising very quickly while these input pins were rising very slowly due to the large capacitance then that would cause a whole set of oscillation/power consumption issues.

But, based on the fact that the inputs and VCC are connected to the same net label there should not be any issues.
I hope this makes sense and is clear, let us know if you have additional questions.

    Best,
    Michael
  • Hi Clemens and Michael,

    OK. Thanks for your reply.
