SN74LVT244B: if we connect the pin 3,5,7,9 directly to GND, whether the chip will be damaged. If we hot swap the 3,5,7,9 pin, whether it's ok.

Part Number: SN74LVT244B

Hi team,

My customer is using the SN74LVT244 now, we want to check if we connect the pin 3,5,7,9 directly to GND, whether the chip will be damaged. If we hot swap the 3,5,7,9 pin, whether it's ok.

Thanks.

  • Hi Frank,
It kind of depends on the state of operation of the SN74LVT244B.

If the output is driving HIGH, and the output pin is tied to ground, then yes, it is very likely that the device will be damaged.

If the output is in Hi-Z mode, then there is no problem.

If the output is driving LOW, then there is no problem.

This device is designed to maintain a Hi-Z mode during power-on/power-off to support hot insertion, but that only works if the OE pin is pulled-up to Vcc during power-on/power-off (as stated in the datasheet at the top of page 2).
