TWL1200-Q1: AM3276 and WL1837MOD interface using TWL1200-Q1

Part Number: TWL1200-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM4376, TWL1200, WL1837MOD

Hi,

We are looking to interface the WL1837MOD which has 1.8V SDIO lines to our 3.3V IO lines on the AM4376. Looking on page 4 of this report for level shifting the WL1837MOD IOs: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra448a/swra448a.pdf, I see that we have an example of doing this using the TXS0108E device. What is the difference between this device and the TWL1200-Q1

On TWL1200-Q1 datasheet mentioned about the 1.8V and 3.3V IO line interface

Please also feel free to recommend any devices that might work in this case.

Regards,

  • pls. consider AM4376 in header
  • Hi Santhosh,

TXS is generic bidirectional translation device which will work for open drain interface as well as push pull (not ideal).
The TWL1200 is application specific device meant for SD, UART, Audio applications.
Internally, the IO line's architecture are similiar between TWL and TXS. It uses a pullup resistor to translate the signal level along with one shot edge accelerators. Additionally, the TWL has SD, Audio, UART specific buffer drivers for CLK and CMD.
  • Does it mean that TWL device is better than TXS device for my appliaction?

We have already start design using TWL device , device between AM4376 and WL1837MOD
  • Hi Santhosh,

TWL is application specific translator for SDIO UART and Audio.
Do you need 19 bits for translation? will you be using all the channels of the TWL1200 ( UART RX TX CTS RTS channels, Audio Clk In Out Sync channels).
do you need this TWL device in -Q1 or commercial non-Q1 version? If translation is not required between all the channels, TXS0108 can be considered which has only 8 channels and no buffers or drivers internally.
Based on these design requirements, the TXS or the TWL needs to be considered.
I would like to know what you choose and hopefully, will be good if you can send out the schematic.
