SN74AHCT16244: Part Number Defanition

Part Number: SN74AHCT16244
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74HC08, SN7400

Good Morning,

I am trying to compare part numbers for a device and your datasheet doesn’t explain what the differences are. Could you please let me know what the “G” and “E” in the part numbers below mean:

74AHCT16244DGGRE4

74AHCT16244DGGRG4

There is also the non E4 and G4 part available but these part also has an SN prefix. Please confirm what this prefix represents?

SN74AHCT16244DGGR

74AHCT16244DGGR

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely

Andy

  • Hello Andy,
The E4/G4 question is extremely common and even has its own post explaining it, located here: e2e.ti.com/.../720395

As for the SN prefix, that is an arbitrary prefix added to TI logic devices to differentiate them from our competitors' devices. For example, Nexperia has the 74HC08, and we have the SN74HC08.

There are a few TI logic parts that do not have the prefix and just start with 74. This is sometimes because the part number was too long for an older system, and other times it was just the chosen part name. Remember that TI has been producing logic for nearly 60 years, and we still sell the very first logic device out the doors (SN7400), there's likely to be some discrepancies over that time period.

We recently made a short video explaining our logic naming conventions - if you have a minute or so, I'd recommend watching it: training.ti.com/anatomy-logic-part-number
  • Good Afternoon Emrys,

Thank you very much. This helped an a great deal and was all I was after.

    Kind Regards

    Andy
