CD40106B: Life expectency of CD4000 series chips powered on

Part Number: CD40106B

I'm using CD4000 gates to make a latching power switch using momentry push button, the 4000 will control a high-side mosfet. The CD4000 will be powered from a 15v switching power adapter and will be on 24/7 all year round. Can these chips survive 20-30 years of power non stop? The application temperature is 30C.

Thanks.

  • Hello G,
I believe what you are looking for is the "mean time between failures" or MTBF.

This can be found on the TI website through the product's folder.

Start by going to the CD40106B product folder: www.ti.com/.../CD40106B

Select the "Quality & packaging" tab.

Each package has information listed. Select "View" for the DPPM / MTBF / FIT Rate of the device you are interested in.

This will take you to a page displaying the reliability data.

For this device, the MTBF is 3.71*10^8 (hours).
