SN74LVC06A: SN74LVC06A used as voltage translater

Hi Team,

When SN74LVC06A is used as voltage translator, VCC = 3.3V. Is it Ok to mix 3.3V & 5V translation with different pull-up voltage?  i.e., For instance:

Channel 1-4: 3.3V input to 5V output; Channel 5-8: 5V input to 3.3V output; 

By the way, is it really recommended to use buffer as voltage translator (customer's need though TI has specific voltage translator)? 

I loop in my customer engineer. Thanks a lot for your support.

    The inputs and the open-drain outputs are overvoltage tolerant and allow up to 5.5 V, regardless of VCC.

    In many voltage translator applications, buffers work just fine.

    An open-drain output does not actively drive the high-level voltage, so rising edges are slow (depending on the value of the pull-up resistor); and the pull-up uses some power when the output is low. I assume other considerations are more important for the customer.
