SN74HC164: Current consumption

Hi,

I am using SN74HC164NSR for my project. What is the minimum,quiescent and typical current consumption of SN74HC164NSR. The datasheet only provide the absolute maximum consumption. I need those data for calculating power estimation.

Kindly provide the current consumption.

Also In my application I am connecting a 3.3V MCU I2C into the input of SN74HC164NSR. And 8 parallel output is given to an 5V MCU. So anyone kindly suggest me a buffer ic for the application.

  • The current consumpion is mostly determined by leakage currents through the ESD protection diodes. It's typically a few nanoamperes at 25 °C, and increases with temperature.

    The SN74HC164 does not have an I²C input. You are controlling it with GPIO pins, aren't you?

    You can just use a shift register running at 5 V with 3.3 V-compatible inputs, such as the SN74AHCT595 or CD74HCT164. Otherwise, you'd need a separate translator like the SN74LVC8T245.
