SN74HCS14-Q1: Differences BTW SN74HCS04-Q1 and SN74HCS14-Q1

Part Number: SN74HCS14-Q1

Hi team,

Please tell me the details about the difference between HCS04-Q1 and HCS14-Q1.

I don't find the differences on the both datasheets.

Regards,

H.Someno

  • I am also interested about the difference, i too have made a post few minutes ago and is searching if i had actually posted it. Was about to write it again but i saw this so there will be no need. Ill be checking here

  • Hi Hidekazu,

The 04 indicates an inverter function and the 14 indicates a Schmitt-trigger inverter. Since the HCS family has integrated schmitt-triggers on all the inputs, this essentially eliminates any difference between the two part numbers.

  • Hi Dylan,

Thank you for the clarification. Its kinda weird to have 2 identical parts.

Is there any electrical characteristics that both of them differ, so i can atleast know which would be the part that is better for application? Or these two chips litterally have the same datasheet down to the letter.

  • According to the datasheets, they are identical.

HCS devices are designed as replacements for the equivalent HC devices. So both HCS04 and HCS14 exist to allow replacing HC04 and HC14 without having to think about it. (Of course, if someone does think about it, you get questions like this one. :-)

  • Well then i guess i am going with the HCS14 since i did want a Schmitt-inverter, better use the part that was based on that feature.

    Thanks Clemens and Dylan

    Have a great day.

  • Hey Drake,

Clemens hit the nail on the head here. For those wanting to upgrade from an HC device to HCS device, having both part numbers eliminates any confusion of which to choose. It will also likely make it easier having the same function number to get the part approved in any qualification process that may need to be done to get the new part approved for use .

For your particular case, you can't go wrong with either. :)
