Hi Experts,

What's your recommendation to replace Onsemi MC14021B? I found CD4021B-Q1 is a very old device, is it the best choice for replacement or do you have any other recommendation? Thank you.

Do you need a P2P replacement? Then there is not much choice.

Hello Arie,

The device you pointed out would be the best option for replacement of the MC14021B.

CD4021B-Q1

If however, you don't need a p2p, and maybe also you don't actually need up to 18V operation, then we certainly have other options.

For example, if you are expecting <6V use case, then I would recommend SN74HCS595-Q1 which is a more recently released device and also comes in some smaller packages (including QFN) that could help to save board space.

Might that be an option? Or is >6V a requirement?

For a parallel-in shift register, use SN74HCS165-Q1 or SN74HCS166-Q1.
