SN74LVC1G07-EP: Clarification of output structure and logic state

Hi,

For this SN74LVC1G07-EP and the SNLVC1G06-EP the data sheets say open drain output and the logic diagram table use H on the output instead of Hi-Z or Z in the data sheet of the non-EP versions. Can you clarify the output structure of these logic devices? Are there any more details to share regarding the H state on these devices in terms of usage? Why is the data sheets done differently in the logic table; for instance are there any differences in the logical function or implementation on the board of the non-EP and EP versions?

An open-drain output, by itself, indeed does not have a high state. The "H" entry in the datasheet assumes that there is a pull-up resistor, which is misleading.

There is no difference from the non-EP version. The non-EP datasheet was updated more recently (in the SN74LVC1G07 datasheet, the "H" was changed to "Z" in revision AD.)

Hi HSG,

There aren't any buffers that toggle on a negative edge that I know of. You can create a toggle circuit with a flip flop, for example the one shown in this video:

To get a negative edge version, you can either use the SN74HCS72, which is a negative edge triggered D-type flip-flop, or you could just invert the clock input with a standard inverter.

I don't know of one with an open-drain output though -- you'd probably have to add a '1G07 on the output.
