SN74HCS00-Q1: & SN74HC132-Q1: Interchangeable?

Hello Logic team,

What exactly is the difference between two Logic Families SN74HCS00 & SN74HC132 ?

From datasheets, both parts look similar except minor differences in electrical parameters (like Supply current, ESD Rating etc)

Can both parts be used interchangibly in an application ?

Hey Michael,

The logic families are actually the HC and HCS not the S00 and 132 you've highlighted.

The differences here can actually be seen in the name itself. HC indicates that it's a High-speed CMOS device. The extra S indicates that it has Schmitt triggers. You could certainly interchange them as they look to be pin to pin but you would lose the benefits of schmitt trigger inputs. These help with slower and noise signals so you wont' see oscillation between switching. Here's some more information on the HCS family and schmitt trigger beneifits:
