SN74LVC2G17: SN74LVC2G17 It will support UART ARE NOT ????

Part Number: SN74LVC2G17
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0102, SN74AHCT1G125, SN74AHC1G125

Hi,

SN74LVC2G17, I am choosing this buffer for UART protocol, My microcontroller is 3V3 support and I connect external UART printer the printer  voltage is 5V .

This buffer will support are not .

Thanks& Regards

pandi

  • Pandi,

The SN74LVC2G17 wouldn't work for UART because of the direction of the UART lines. Both channels in the 2G17 go in the same direction. In UART they're inverse directions, TX to RX and RX to TX, and the translation level should match accordingly.
Instead, for 2 line UART the TXB0102 would be better. This is auto-bidirectional and will support your voltages.

    Thanks,
    Rami

  • If the printer is connected through a cable, the TXB0102 might not be able to handle the capacitive load at high baud rates. In that case, I'd recommend one SN74AHCT1G125 for 3.3 V to 5 V conversion, and one SN74AHC1G125 running at 3.3 V to convert from 5 V.
