CD4046B: Electrical characteristics (Temperature characteristics)

Part Number: CD4046B

Hi

According to datasheet (Fig. ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS), there are Temperature-Frequency Stability as below.

My questions is following...,

1.What is Condition ? (For example : oscillating frequency)

2.What is range of temperature in indicated numbers in datasheet ?

Best Regards,

Daiki Ogata

  • Hello Ogata-san,
This is frequency stability, ie it is telling you how far off the frequency can go per degree Celsius as a percentage.

The temperature range is the operating temperature range of the device, -55C to +125C.

For an example, if your operating frequency is 10 MHz at 25C, then at 10V operation the frequency can shift up to .04% per degree Celsius.

    At 50C, we would expect up to a .04 * (50 - 25) = 1% expected maximum frequency error.

Thank you . I'm sorry for reply.
    I understand temperature range ( -55C to +125C). thanks!!

    Additional question

I conducted experiments for investigating Temperature-Frequency stability.
Oscillating frequency is about 100 kHz. VDD is 10 V and 15 V, respectively. Frequency Offset.

These results..., VDD = 10 V , corresponds numbers on datasheet. (the result is 0.06 %/℃, numbers on datasheet is 0.07%/℃).
But VDD = 15 V, not corresponds numbers on datasheet. (the result is 0.12 %/℃, numbers on datasheet is 0.03%/℃).

    I think, on Temperature-Frequency stability on datasheet is different frequency range , VDD = 10 V, 15 V, respectively.
    Do you know???
  • The stability numbers in the datasheet are only indicative of the CD4046B's performance when isolated from other circuit components. It's very difficult to test this in the real world since the timing components (R and C) will also be subjected to large temperature changes that will affect the results of the testing.
  • Mr. Emrys Maier

    Thank you for message.

    Sure.

What is condition (Temperature, Frequency) when CD4046B's delivery inspection (Temperature-Frequency stability) ?

  • This table indicates that it is for "typical" values -- ie room temperature.

Since the spec in question is for changes across temperature, you can safely assume it is across the rated operating temperature range of -55C to +125C
