    I would recommend instead looking at the SN74AUC1G125 which is better optimized for lower voltage operation. and has a maximum delay of 2.5 ns at 1.8V operation.

    Most logic devices will drive far more current than the given datasheet specification, however we would no longer guarantee the output voltage at the higher current values.


    If the customer needs a guaranteed V_OH or V_OL while producing 12 mA at 1.8V, the best solution is to parallel multiple channels of a single device. The LVC logic family is probably the best choice for this due to its simplicity and strong output drivers.

    The SN74LVC3G34 has guaranteed VOH and VOL values at 4mA, so all 3 channels could be paralleled to produce a guaranteed 12mA output with the same VOH and VOL values.

    I should note that I've never seen a system where that would be required. The output strength of LVC is extremely strong and should have no problems driving any signal line without paralleling the channels.


    One solution could be to use the 3 channel device and add 0 ohm resistors to the outputs so that 1, 2, or 3 parallel channels could be used in the final design -- then the customer could easily modify the BOM of their system to get the exact drive strength desired.
