SN74LVC1G06-EP: Open Drain: Discrepancy between Logic Table and Description

Part Number: SN74LVC1G06-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC1G06

Hello

I wish to use SN74LVC1G06-EP for its Open-Drain output. In the description and elsewhere in the datasheet there are numerous mention of the same. Even in the switching diagrams, it says t-plz  and t-pzl.

But in the Function Table given on page# 2 of the datasheet, the output is either L or H whereas it should be L or Z.

Can you clarify this, please? Or is it me who is missing something here.

Regards

Atin

  • The same "H" entries can be found in the datasheets of other open-drain devices. Apparently, this table assumes that you're using a pull-up resistor.

In any case, this device definitely has an open-drain output.

  • Hi Atin,

In our newer datasheets we do update this to differentiate "Z" and "H," but we still have a lot of these older datasheets on the web.

The datasheet correctly has  VOL but no VOH specification, which is indicative of a device that cannot drive the output high.

Clemens is correct - the output of the device is open-drain. When an open-drain device is outputting a functional 'high' it actually is just in high-impedance mode.

  • Hi Emrys

The new datasheet containing the correct table is for SN74LVC1G06, but it is still wrong (or confusing) in the SN74LVC1G06-EP datasheet. I always get the datasheet from the official source.

And since I only looked at the EP datasheet it confused me a bit even after everything else in the datasheet suggesting it was Open Drain output.

Thanks for your time and reply.

  • Thanks Clemens, every part of the datasheet was telling me it is Open Drain except for that one table.

So now I know for sure.
