Range Distance with CC112x - Can you achieve further than 25km ?

Hi,

Just released the video from the range test in Cape Town with the CC1121, 868MHz, 14dBm output power, 1.2kbps and standard kit antenna.

Achieved over 25km of range with just the standard CC1121 EM reference design. 

It was good fun testing the radio and getting some long range distances especially with ideal range conditions. Would be great if you achieve a greater range distance than 25km to let us know and how this was tested and configured.

Theoretically, if we included the CC1190 as well on the Tx and Rx side then we should of been able to achieve 4.75 times greater distance than the system with just CC112x. Achieved 25km with just the CC1121 so should be possible with CC112x CC1190 to achieve: 25km x 4.75 = 119km.... and this is still with a non-directional antenna :)

Please let us know if you get 25km+ distances with the CC112x family. Ideal if you can geotag the pictures and videos.

    We have tested the CC1125 With evaluation board development kit but We have a very short range of distance only 0,5km!!! @ 868Mhz and 300bps (2% error rate 100 packets).

    The 2 evaluation Kits were in visibility line and about 1 meter altitude. 

    Which kind of parameters do you use to have this kind of performance? (25Km)

    Hi Roberto,

    Settings: 868 MHz, 14 dBm output power and data rate of 1.2 kbps; standard reg settings from SmartRF studio with kit antennas supplied with CC112x EM kit.

    The Tx unit was at 1000 m so this will help the total range distance, the Rx unit was at 1 m height above ground. With a 20 dB fade margin, the calculated distance with Friis GND model which takes into account the ground dielectric (18) and the heights of the antennas (1000m_Tx & 1m_Rx). We measured 25 km and the calculated distance was around 23 km so the range distance model is quite accurate.

    By reducing the height to 1 m for both Tx and Rx; the distance with the same settings should be around 2 km so 500 m seems a bit on the short side for Line-Of-Sight.
