Hi,

I am using EK-TM4C1294XL evaluation board. For CAN do I need to use a transceiver for communication or is an onboard transceiver available. If I need to use a transceiver which one should i choose for easy implementation.

You will need a CAN transceiver. For development using the EK-TM4C1294XL launchpad, you can use the Edde Flex CAN booster Pack. This application note describes using the booster pack and has some additional examples: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spna245/spna245.pdf

If you develop your own circuit board I like the TCAN332 transceiver with its dominant timeout protection.
