TMDSCNCD263: TMDSCNCD263 doesn't powers on while connecting 5V 3A(USB C type) power to connector J12

Hi, does the TMDSCNCD263 power up if you give power from the USB port of your laptop/PC?

Make sure you push the USB-C connector all the way into the J12. I have seen that sometimes it only goes into half way if you not push it enough.

I have tried to provide the USB C power from Laptop and also from a independent 5V 3A power adapter, that is working if i connect to the USB C port of the docking station(REV F), but while connecting directly to the control card its not powering up.

i tried to push the USB C type to little more while connecting, seems its getting in to the space it can go in.

Just checking, can you confirm the power supply is marked as supporting USB PD (Power Delivery)?  If you are not sure, can you post a link to the exact power supply you are using?

Also, can you let us know which, if any, LEDs light up when the power supply is connected?

Kindly do as per Mr. Mike's suggestion. If possible, also check if your power supply is actually giving the 5V,3A output.

i am using the below power supply RS PRO Plug-In AC/DC Adapter 5.1V dc Output, 3A Output | RS Components (rs-online.com).

also i can see the same supply is working fine while i am connecting through the J17 of the docking station

Hi Bikash,

I don't see anything on that power supply that confirms that it support USB Power Delivery.  I cannot speak to the docking station as that is owned by a different team (although if you provide a link to the exact docking station used, I can try to take a look), but the TMDSCNCD263 requires USB PD negotiations to successfully power the board.  I recommend trying a supply that is known to support USB PD.

We have used two power supplies and can confirm they work:

In addition to looking at the power supply, can you let me know which, if any, LEDs are lit when you try to power the the Control Card directly with the power supply you have?  This is helpful as there are different LED indicators for good or bad power and it would be useful to confirm that the power does not meet the requirements of the Control Card.

Regarding the TMDSHSECDOCK, I am not an expert on the board, but my understanding is that it does perform USB Power Delivery negotiations, and just pulls whatever power it needs from the supply, assuming the supply can provide it.  Since the connection from the TMDSHSECDOCK to the Control Card connects the power rails directly, it bypasses the portion of the power circuitry on the Control Card that handles the USB PD negotiations.  This is likely why you can power the board through the dock with a non-PD power supply, but cannot power the Control Card directly.

thank you for the explanation. I will try get a power supply that supports USB PD negotiations.

while powering up through the docking station i can see LD1,LD14,LD15 are turning on, where as while connecting directly to the TMDSCNCD263 none of the LEDs are turned on.
