TM4C123GH6PZ: Unable to connect the target through XDS2xx

Part Number: TM4C123GH6PZ

Hi Champ,

I am asking for my customer.

They are trying to download with the device. The board was good before, but somehow, it is unable to download and with showing the error in below.

They have measured and compared the voltage signals of TMS/TCK/TDO/TDI/RST between normal and NG board.

For the normal one : The voltage of TMS/TCK/TDO/TDI/RST are all 3.466V, while for the problem one : TMS is 2V ; TCK is 0.42V ; TDO is 0.765V ; TDI is 0.78V ; RST is 3.5V.

I would like to ask if there is a way to force it to download or is the IC ruined ?

Thanks and regards,

Johnny

  • HI,

For the normal one : The voltage of TMS/TCK/TDO/TDI/RST are all 3.466V, while for the problem one : TMS is 2V ; TCK is 0.42V ; TDO is 0.765V ; TDI is 0.78V ; RST is 3.5V.

From your description there seems to be a hardware problem. But I don't what led to this state of the board. Here is my suggestion:

      - Use the same XDS200 on a known good board. This is to make sure there is no issue with the debug probe.

      - Check if there is proper soldering.

      - Do an ABA swap. Swap the MCU from the NG board to a known good board and also swap a known good MCU chip to the NG board. This is to find out if it is a MCU problem or a board level problem.

      - With the voltages you are showing on the JTAG interface, I hesitate to suggest doing an unlock operation because it most likely will not work. If the debug probe cannot connect to the target, there really isn't anything you can do. However, you can at least give it a try to see if you can unlock the device. See section 5.3.2 of this app note for detail. https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spma075/spma075.pdf
