The TI compiler is now deprecated. It has been replaced with the TI clang compiler.

How do I generate an HalCoGen project compatible with the new clang compiler?

In the HalCoGen configuration, I see we can select GCC tooling.

As GCC is mostly compatible with clang, I figure it would be the way to go.

That said, when doing so, it looks like the instruction generated by the HalCoGen project is invalid.

It looks like the compiler do not understand the fmxr instruction...

Also, when generating a project with CCS, I get a warning that some configuration might be needed.

How do I configure the compiler properly?

Hi Cabriel,

The Cortex-R4/R5 are supported by TI ARM Clang compiler. But some macros, Intrinsics, and Pragma used in HalCoGen generated code are not fully supported by TI ARM Clang.

The latest HALCoGen (04.07.01) was released in December 2018. The ARM-CGT-CLANG has not be widely used in TI ARM devices, and we didn't update the HALCOGen to support ARM Clang compiler and linker.

Hi QJ,

Thanks for this precise answer.
After reading the migration guide, it seems like there's no way to migrate the Halcogen-generated code without rewriting most of it.

Without support for halogen, it seems like we are stuck to the legacy compiler (unless we want to build the SDK from scratch).

Is this correct?

Hi Gabriel,

Yes, I don't recommend the TI Clang compiler for Hercules devices used in safety applications. All of our test cases in CSP (HalCoGen CSP, SDL CSP, Flash API CSP, MCAL CSP) are developed and tested using TI ARMCL compilers.

In a perfect world, I would prefer not to build a new project using a legacy toolchain, but CSP is very important for us.
