We have been working with the C2000 years for more than a couple of years and have a very good understanding of this series. We have also implemented serial firmware update for performing remote firmware updates. We are now considering to use the TMS570LS31x4 series as our safety co-processor. The safety checks will include arc detection, leakage current measurements and relay weld logics etc. We understand that this device has 12 bit ADCs as compared to the differential 16-bit ADCs in the Delfino series. The main motivation for using Hercules series is the built-in hardware test & safety features. In contrast these tests will have to be software based if we use the Delfino series. In this regard please guide on the following points:
1- Is it a good decision to use Hercules instead of Delfino as a safety processor considering that we are already using Delfino as a control DSP and that we are well familiar with Delfino architecture and firmware development?.
2- Does TMS570LS3134 supports serial firmware update similar to Delfino series?.
3- How effective is the technical support for the Hercules series. The C2000 forum has been very helpful and response has been very quick to our queries. Can we expect the same for the Hercules series?.
Any other recommendations and guide will be highly appreciated.
