TMS570LS0432: FEE write cycle detemination

Part Number: TMS570LS0432

Hi,

As mentioned above, we use TMS570LS0432 in our design. We would like to write the data to the FEE once every XX minutes to have the life time computation of our system.   We would like to know the number of allowed write cycle per sector.

1.  If I write max number of times to the sector 0 of bank 7, would it be possible to write to the sector 1 of bank 7 after that with out any issue?

2. Is erase considered as write cycle?

3. Is each page write is considered as write cycle?

4. How many write cycles per sector/total is possible?

Best regards,

Sreekanth Challa

  • Hi Sreekanth,

We would like to know the number of allowed write cycle per sector.

So, according to the datasheet, write/erase cycles with 15-year Data Retention requirement is 100K for Bank 7(Data Flash), and 1K for Bank0/1(Program flash). And note that these are the max cycles that we guarantee even if the device is operated in extreme temperature conditions like -40°C/125°C and this might be more if the temperature is normal.

    1.  If I write max number of times to the sector 0 of bank 7, would it be possible to write to the sector 1 of bank 7 after that with out any issue?

Yes, you can do that. If you do the sector wise erase and write for the sector0 then it won't affect the sector1.

    2. Is erase considered as write cycle?

    No, both are different cycles.

That means we can do 1000 erase cycles and 1000 write cycles for Bank0/1(Program flash) and 100K erase cycles and 100K write cycles for Bank 7(Data Flash).

    3. Is each page write is considered as write cycle?

No, it would be applicable for individual memory cells.

For example, 1000 write cycles means, I can make each cell of the memory from 1 to 0 for the 1000 times without any issue.

Note: As the device is uses NOR flash the default data after erase is all 1's and so it is not possible to make cell value from 0 to 1 and it is always from 1 to 0.

    4. How many write cycles per sector/total is possible?

I guess i answered this question. The write cycles are individually applicable for each memory cell.
