AM2632-Q1: connect FRAM externally

Part Number: AM2632-Q1

Is it possible to connect FRAM externally? If possible, how much capacity can it be connected to?

  • Hi,

The ability to connect an external memory is going to depend more on the interface to the memory than the exact type of memory.  In addition to the common I2C, SPI, UART, etc serial interfaces that some memories use for interfacing, the AM263x devices also have QSPI and GPMC interfaces.  Note that depending on the exact communication interface on the specific memory device you are looking at, there may or may not be example code demonstrating that interface to external memory that already exists, so you may have to write your own driver.

If you have a specific FRAM memory device in mind, please share the part number and the memory interface on that device and we can provide better guidance on if that device can be supported, and if there is any software drivers that can be used or re-purposed for the AM263x.

    Thanks,
    Mike
