It sounds like it prompted you to update the firmware on it, did the seem to be successful? Typically the only issues I've seen were from when it is unplugged mid-update, did that happen?
What happens when you try and program with it? Do you get any errors?

Does the XDS110 still show up in the computer's device manager? If so, you can try using Uniflash and see it it will detect and update it again.
If not, then there are some emergency steps of opening the case up and trying to reflash the XDS manually.
