TMS570LS3134: Asking feedback on failure scenario

Part Number: TMS570LS3134

Hi,

My customer is considering below failure mode and wants to know possibility TPS65381A ENDRV logic is broken.
Please see attached ppt.
2086.Short_test.pptx
Hercules ADC is powered by 5V and ADC input signal is generated from 32V and a voltage divider(R1 and R2) lowers the signal level less than 5V.
5VADC voltage is generated by HW other than TPS65381A.
Suppose R1 is broken (short-circuited) and 32V is applied to ADC inputs and 5VADC.
In such scenario, is it likely the issue spread to TPS65381A and ENDRV logic is also broken?

Customer expects ADC and CORE, I/O are isolated inside MCU, so such possibility is low.
They actually tested the scenario on boards(tested sample : n=2) and gots result only 5VADC was short-circuited. TPS was OK.
Customer wants to get feedback from TI about above observation.
(customer does NOT ask for guarantee from TI)

Thanks and regards,
Koichiro Tashiro

  • Tashiro-san,

I cannot comment on the failure mode when 32V is applied to the ADC inputs and operating supply. The customer must ensure that the recommended operating range for each supply to the MCU is not violated. This means that each supply to the MCU may need to be monitored by a circuit that can also signal to the TPS to generate the correct ENDRV signal.
