TMS570LS0232: n/a

Part Number: TMS570LS0232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Good day dear all,

I am new to MCU units and would like to learn how to implement ISO 26262 ASIL A/B functions in the future.

So as a start, I want to build a prototype that demonstrate EPB safety function, say the scope covers from 1 AI & 1DI to 2 DO's.

What would be your recommendation to buy as a cheap but minimal learning packages, incl. MCU, testing kit, developing SW environment, testing environment?

I came cross to Hercules TMS570LS04x/03x LaunchPad Development Kit, is it overkilling ?

Thanks for your inputs.

  • Hello,

Hercules MCUs enable customers to easily develop safety-critical products for transportation applications. Developed to meet the requirements of the ISO 26262 ASIL-D and IEC 61508 SIL-3 safety standards, Hercules MCUs offer several performance, memory and connectivity options. Dual-core lockstep CPU architecture, hardware BIST, MPU, and ECC are just some of the key functional safety features available to meet the needs of automotive, railway and aerospace applications.

    Some fields of applications are:

    • Braking (ABS & ESC)
    • Electric Power Steering (EPS)
    • HEV/EV inverters and battery management systems
    • ADAS, railway
    • Aerospace
    • Agriculture
    • Lifts and cranes

Code Composer Studio (CCS) is Integrated Development Environment (IDE) provided by TI and it is free ( www.ti.com/.../CCSTUDIO ). Another software tool that is provided by TI for configuring Hercules MCUs is HALCoGen (Hardware Abstraction Layer Code Generator). It is free also and can be downloaded from here:

HALCoGen package comes with examples which are installed together with the tool.

After you make a choice for MCU that fits you needs (here is an overview of MCUs: ) on a product page for particular MCU you can see what development kit/LauncPad you can use.

LaunchPads and HDKs can be used with on-bard JTAG emulator or with an external one.

To start with Hercules series of MCUs you should buy LaunchPad or HDK and download CCS and HALCoGen. You don't have to buy anything else to connect to your PC and start.

    Best regards,
    Miro
