When using a crystal with connections to the metal case, the crystal manufacturer suggests to tie to GND.

Is it better to tie the crystal case to signal GND or KELVIN GND?

  • Hello,

The external crystal load capacitors should be tied back to Kelvin_GND. Kelvin_GND is not intended to be shorted to other GND lines externally. The reason not to tie Kelvin_GND to the PCB ground is so that you keep high switching currents out of this signal.

About how to connect the crystal case, we don't have any recommendation. I'd go with tie the crystal case to the PCB ground.
