TMS320F28069M: BoostXL-DRV8301 3.3V query

Part Number: TMS320F28069M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, BOOSTXL-DRV8301,

Hello, I am developing our motor control hardware using the TMS320F28069M and a BoostXL-DRV8301 boost board. I see that from the DRV8301 datasheet that if 3.3V is being used by the BoostXL that one should disconnect the 3.3V jumpers JP1 and JP2 on the TMS320F28069M board (which is derived from the USB and limited in current).

Is it possible to supply an external 3.3V to both the F28069M and DRV8301 board or is the 3.3V generated on the DRV8301 IC?

Regards, James

  • Yes, you can if the 3.3V and 5V from the USB are disabled on launchxl-f28069. Actually, the power from USB is enough for both both the F28069M and DRV8301.

  • Hi, thank you for the answer. Is the power from the DRV8301 (1.5A) acceptable to be used back on my Motherboard for other devices too that require 3.3V? Also, can the screw terminals on the DRV8301 be replaced for plug in style connectors like Pheonix connectors or does this require a redesign of the DRV8301 for a custom board?

Yes, it can be used for 3.3/5.0V power for the controller, which depends on the requirement of your hardware board.

lso, can the screw terminals on the DRV8301 be replaced for plug in style connectors like Pheonix connectors or does this require a redesign of the DRV8301 for a custom board?

Yes, it is just a reference for you. You might redesign it according to your system.
