TMS320F28335: Will the F28335 work with the latest TI Design and Analysis tools like PowerSuite?

Part Number: TMS320F28335
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: POWERSUITE, SFRA

I'm in the early stages of design of a digital DC-DC Converter and must choose the MCU. It's down to the legacy TMS320F28335 vs the new TMS320F28388. My question is: will the legacy F28335 work with the latest TI design tools, in particular: PowerSuite, Solution Adapter, Compensation Designer, and SFRA?

I believe these tools can significantly speed up my development when it comes to compensation design and frequency-response measurement. I know that the newer TMS320F28388 can use these tools, but it's not clear whether the legacy F28335 can make use of any or all of them. Please advise which of those tools, if any, the F28335 can use.

Thank you.

  • Hi Kamran,

SFRA is embedded in many systems solutions or SW projects which are typically configured for specific (newer) devices within Gen 3 (F28002x/F28004x/F2837x/F2838x). However the standalone SFRA package download should include F28335 (all C2000 devices are supported).

To benefit from the other tools like PowerSuite/Solution Adapter/Compensation Designer, you would need to use a newer device (Gen 3: F28002x/F28004x/F2837x/F2838x) - would strongly recommend this route vs. using the F28335 legacy device. There are migration guides available to help with this transition.
